The VMS-4 is a two-channel device, each side having a transformer with a single primary winding and three secondary windings. This gives each side an input, a direct out and three transformer-isolated outputs. All inputs and outputs are gold-plated XLR connectors. The isolated outputs have the advantage of eliminating ground loops and minimizing loading effects when connecting multiple inputs to an output. Further, each output may have pin-1 of the XLR connector lifted from all other points with a recessed switch (you can't drop the box and break the switch). The VMS-4 is a passive unity-gain device using Jensen JE-MB-E transformers. It is designed to work at microphone level, but also may be used at line level (0 VU). Typical harmonic distortion + noise = 0.0035% at -20 dBu, 1 kHz. The housing for the VMS-4 is aluminum with engraved lettering (the writing doesn't wear off after two weeks of use!). An optional 3-way tape return selector is also transformer-isolated. Price $699.00 The VMS-2 is a single-channel version of the VMS-4. Its transformer has a single primary winding and two secondary windings. This provides a direct out and two transformer-isolated outputs. Other specifications are similar to the VMS-4. Price $325.00 |
